Chinese Qing Ming Festival, a memorable celebration

The Qing Ming Festival is celebrated in honour of Jie Zitui who died in 636 BC during the Spring and Summer Period. Jie Zitui was one of Duke Wen's followers. During Wen's period of exile he was stranded in the mountains with three of his fellow men without food. Jie Zitui cut a piece of meat from his own thigh and made a soup to feed his master, Wen, who later became Duke Wen of Jin. When Wen questioned him on where the soup had come from, Jie explained what he had done.
