Singapore's National Day is celebrated each year on August 9th, ever since the small nation formalized its independence which was gained from the country of Malaysia in 1965. On this celebrated date the Lion City separated itself from its former ruler, the Federation of Malaysia and within a month established itself as a new republic. The National Day is celebrated with great fervour by all citizens of Singapore who unite joyously to commemorate this important occasion.
